"Feast On Your Life"

The sun is shining again today, but the grass is no longer green.  We lost power for a few hours last night due to a windstorm, but thankfully it came back on sometime in the middle of the night.  It's return made for a much warmer morning.  Just one of many things to be grateful for today.

I am reading "Arriving At Your Own Door: 108 Lessons in Mindfulness" by Jon Kabat-Zinn, and at the beginning of the book he includes this poem by Derek Walcott from "Love after Love":

The time will come
when, with elation,
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror,
and each will smile at the other's welcome,

and say, sit here.  Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was your self.
Give wine.  Give bread.  Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you

all your life, whom you ignored
for another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,

the photographs, the desperate notes,
peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit. Feast on your life.

-- Derek Walcott, "Love after Love"

I am grateful for time the time that I had this holiday break to "feast on my life" and get to know myself again.  How do you stay connected to your inner self in the midst of daily life?

Sunshine

Waking up on January 1st to sunshine, especially when we have had so little sun for so long is certainly a blessing.  The green grass and 46 degree temperature is a little odd, but as long as there is sun I am OK with it.
